Welcome again to the ECHE Blog. I’m Simone and I’m a programmer by profession. As a programmer, the first output from a new program is usually “Hello World!” So here it is!
I’ve been using the “Bible in a Year” podcast and lately the reading includes passages from Jeremiah. If you’ve never read Jeremiah, let me tell you it can be a depressing book. God instructs Jeremiah to tell the people that because they’ve rejected Him, the land will be ravaged and pillaged by the Babylonians. Many of them will be killed. Others will be carried as captives to Babylon. Families will be separated. Battles will be lost. On and on.
But in the midst of the worst of circumstances God offers a glimmer of hope. In Jeremiah 29:10-14 God tells His people exactly how long they will be captive in Babylon. He says how much He loves them and that He will be thinking about them. He also says He’ll restore them to their land.
What a awesome promise! Ok so, here’s the object lesson: No matter how bad it is or how bad I’ve messed up, God offers me hope. He offers you hope today. As long as you’re alive, you have an opportunity to make the right choice. Hold on to the hand of God and allow Him to lead you.
